Mark Murdock, founder of the Southern School of Martial Arts and Rivers Edge Bujinkan Dojo. Shihan Murdock has been active in Marital Arts since the early 80's. He currently holds the status of Rokudan, a 6th Degree Black Belt in Manabi Masho Ju-Jitsu, A Sandan, 3rd Degree Black Belt in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu (Ninjutsu), Sandan, 3rd Degree Black Belt in Judo and Nidan, 2nd Degree Black Belt in Aikido.

Originally from Ohio, Shihan Murdock developed his skills under the teachings and guidance of Professor John H. Casarez, Grandmaster and Soke of Manabi Masho Ju-Jitsu. During his time with Soke Casarez, Shihan Murdock was exposed to many different styles of Martial Arts, including (but not limited to) Aikido, Eskrima: Phillipino Martial Arts, Kung Fu, and Judo.
Shihan Mark Murdock also trained with other instructors of martial arts back in the 80's. During his early years of martial arts he trained in JKD and the Phillipino Martial Arts under Dan Isontos's student, Lester Cohen. Lester is now teaching U.S. Navy Seals. He has extensive experience in these arts. He also trained in Aikido and Okanawan Karate under Sensei Bob Fraizer of Huntington, WV. "See picture below"
In addition to his present skills, Shihan Murdock is expanding his knowledge of the Martial Arts with the study of Ninjutsu. The Shihan has studied Ninjutsu with Soke Casarez (who has trained and studied with Steven Hayes, the first American Shidoshi of Ninjutsu). At present, Shihan Murdock is studying the Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu (Ninjutsu) system under the guidance of Shihan Richard Van Donk (of the American Bujinkan Dojo now the International Bujinkan Dojo Asociation).

Shihan Murdock has also trained at the Steven Hayes-based Quest Center in Chapel Hill, NC. Both Steven Hayes and Richard Van Donk developed their skills under the guidance of Masaaki Hatsumi, 34th Grandmaster of Bujinkan Ninjutsu. Shihan Murdock also trained with: Stephen K. Hayes, Bud Malstrom. Shihan also trained with Jack Hoban, Richard Van Donk and indirectly with Masaaki Hatsumi at the 2000 Atlanta Tai Kai.
In 1994, Shihan Murdock established the Southern School of Martial Arts, now located in Mcgee's Crossroads in Johnston County, NC. This is just south of Raleigh, NC. Southern School of Martial Arts was the first school in North Carolina authorized by Soke Casarez to teach the Manabi-Masho Jujitsu system. Southern School of Martial Arts has been teaching Manabi-Masho Jujitsu for 11 years now in the state of North Carolina.
Students attending this specialized school receive intense, personal instruction on the ways of Manabi-Masho Jujitsu. The school was recently awarded the honor of "Best Martial Arts School (Regional)" by the World Head of Family Sokeship Council.

In October 2001 Shihan Murdock created Kobushi-Do "The Little Warrior Way" A specialized martial art for children. See the Kobushi-Do page for more information.

In April, 2003 Shihan Mark Murdock, Shidoshi-Kai in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu founded the Rivers Edge Bujinkan Dojo. Shidoshi-Kai Murdock is licensed to give authentic Bujinkan rank through the assistance of Shihan Van Donk from Grandmaster Masaaki Hatsumi.

In November of 2004 Shihan Murdock designated his S.S.M.A. stlye of Manabi-Masho Jujitsu with a new name "Shojiki-Ryu, Manabi-Masho Jujitsu" (The Honesty-Integrity School of the Working Way).

When not in training, Shihan Murdock devotes much of his time exploring different styles of Martial Arts, and combines the best of the best with the Manabi Masho system.
Beyond training in the dojo, Shihan Murdock provides both individual and seminar-based training. He has provided training for agencies such as Wake County Public Safety, various fire departments in the Raleigh-Durham area, and has privately tutored Military police and other officers. He has also tutored several police officers and other Public Safety personnel in "medium to low force" self defense.

This style of self defense, a variation of the style taught in Manabi-Masho, has given these Public Safety workers a way to effectively defend themselves without seriously injuring their attackers.

Manabi-Masho Ju-jitsu has been such a great martial art to train in and to teach. It has always been fun to learn and fun to teach. It has helped me keep a strong spirit, have good health and have the confidence to go any place knowing that I can successfully defend myself or protect my loved ones if the situation would ever arise. I thank God for the strength to continue teaching and learning, in the art and the way of Manabi-Masho Ju-jitsu. I thank Soke John Casarez for training me in this wonderful and most effective art. I will do my very best to train my students in the art of Manabi-Masho as effectively as Soke has trained me. It's great when a student comes to me and says, I used this technique last night and it saved my life. This is my greatest reward in teaching Manabi-Masho, knowing that I have helped a fellow human to survive in this violent world.
- Shihan Mark Murdock

On August 31st 2003 Shihan Murdock received an Outstanding Leadership award from the World Head Of Family Sokeship Council International Hall of Fame.

Shihan Mark Murdock is the highest ranking authorized Manabi-Masho Jujitsu instructor in the state of North Carolina and is the founder of Manabi-Masho Jujitsu in North Carolina. Shihan Mark Murdock is also the highest ranking Black Belt in the Manabi-Masho Federation of America under Soke John Casarez. Shihan Murdock has over 20 years in the art of Manabi-Masho Jujitsu.

Sensei Bob Frazier

Shihan Mark Murdock and Sensei Bob Fraiser Bob was one of my earlier instructors. He taught many times at Soke Casarez's Dojo back in the 80's. Bob is a 7th Dan in Okanawan Karate.
Bob only teaches to a few of his friends now due to being in poor health. I was able to train with him earlier this year. It had been over 13 years since I had trained with him. It was great to have the chance to train with him again. I plan to see him more often now. Hopefully I will be able to train with him again.
